Is Chemistry Required in High School in Georgia?

Georgia high school graduation requirements state that students must receive 4 Credits in Science courses. 

Students must take and pass the following:

  • Biology  
  • Physical Science or Physics  
  • Chemistry, Environmental Science, or Earth Systems (just one from this group) 
  • 4th Science

Some of the areas of chemistry covered in Georgia’s Standards of Science Excellence cover topics such as atomic theory, solution properties and concentration​, and periodic trends and properties​. After students cover basic level ideas and theories, they move on to more in-depth examinations, such as:

2. Properties and Bonding

3. Chemical Reactions

4. Solutions, Acids and Bases
